Alcohol Health Myths
Everyone knows that alcohol is not healthy. It affects our entire bodies – particularly the liver, pancreas, stomach and heart – in many negative ways. However, because people want alcohol to be healthy to justify their consumption, there are a few myths about alcohol and its health “benefits”.
Is Alcohol only bad for the liver?
Alcohol is associated with over 200 diseases and conditions. Among the most common are heart failure, high blood pressure, certain cancers, depression, anxiety and weight gain. Alcohol is a depressant which affects the entire body, including the brain, and hangovers can exacerbate the effects of alcohol the morning after. However, Vitamin B6 can help with low moods and Vitamin C increases your blood antioxidant levels – two of the key ingredients of LVDY.
Can alcohol improve my sleep?
While it is true that alcohol is a sedative to our central nervous system, it does not actually foster the healthy sleep patterns which are necessary for regeneration and growth – a vital process during sleep. Excessive alcohol consumption is one of the most common causes of
insomnia and keeping hydrated is key to reducing alcohol impact on your sleep.
Is drinking in moderation always safe?
Drinking in moderation is always safe. Moderate alcohol consumption may have some health benefits, such as reducing risk of ischemic strokes and heart disease, but that does not mean drinking is risk-free. Even light drinking carries an increased risk of certain cancers, such as oesophageal cancer. N-Acetyl Cystine (NAC) replenishes the Glutathione (GSH) in your body, a powerful antioxidant linked to improved health, which supports it in reducing cellular damage from free radicals produced as a result of consuming alcohol. That is why we have included both NAC and GSH as key ingredients of LVDY.
Can Coffee sober you up quickly the morning after
Coffee does not do anything to help your body process alcohol faster. It contains caffeine, a stimulant, which can make you feel energized and more alert, but it will not sober you up or reduce symptoms of a hangover. Your body needs time to break down the alcohol that is i your system and caffeine won’t speed that process up. However, Glutathione (a key ingredient in LVDY) does support your body in dealing with the free radicals produced from breaking down the alcohol and can reduce hangover symptoms. (Be careful though – it won’t stop you getting drunk!) .
So, as we all know, there is no way to drink safely and, though there are many myths we might like to believe about alcohol, there really are no meaningful health benefits. However, we also all know that people are not all simply going to stop drinking. So instead of believing myths about alcohol to convince yourself of its health benefits, why not try something which supports your body while consuming alcohol instead? Why not try LVDY?
